Helping you use YNAB to live a spendful life
Imagine how it would feel to be in control of your money and:
- Get out of debt forever
- Stop counting the days to your next paycheck
- Make financial emergencies a thing of the past
- Spend without guilt or worry
YNAB (short for You Need A Budget) can do that for you. YNAB is a great app. But it is much more than an app. It’s a method and a mindset. With YNAB, you give every dollar a job. You don’t budget money you don’t yet have. And you ask yourself five important questions that build stability, resilience and flexibility into your financial life. With YNAB, you live spendfully because you’re spending your money on the things that represent your values.
The downside to YNAB is that the learning curve can be a little steep. Not only do you need to learn to use the software, you also need to shift your thinking about budgeting and spending. Getting over that learning curve is absolutely worth the effort. As a YNAB Certified Coach, I would love to flatten the learning curve for you and provide expertise, support and accountability so you can be up and running with YNAB and on your way to a spendful life.
I was very hesitant about YNAB because I had tried it maybe seven years ago, and it just didn’t go well for me. Working with Janine made all the difference! With her guidance I had a much better understanding of how I should set my budget up and check in with it on a regular basis. She has made me a YNAB convert! I love knowing where my money is going and that I have money set aside for True Expenses – those real but not regular expenses that we all know are coming. She’s also right there if I get lost or have any questions. I have much more peace in my financial life thanks to Janine’s help.

The Five Questions
Late last year, the YNAB method changed. Instead of four rules, we now have just one, Give Every Dollar A Job. And we now have five questions to support that rule. I blogged about this in December after the announcement came out. When I first heard about this shift, I was thrilled. And now, four…

Keep an eye on last month
I’m writing this on April 2. When I did my daily YNAB check-in this morning, I saw that some transactions dated March 31 had imported overnight, which created some overspending on my March budget. This is why it’s so important in a new YNAB month to go back to the prior month budget screen at…

Handling Venmo in YNAB
There’s a reason why Venmo is so popular. It’s a simple and convenient way to pay someone. If you use both Venmo and YNAB here are some things to keep in mind: YNAB considers Venmo a bank, so if you add it to YNAB, it will show up in the Cash area of your Accounts…
