If you’ve been around YNAB awhile, you probably remember the great Heard It From Hannah YouTube videos. Hannah, a YNAB employee, did a great job of explaining YNAB stuff in a really entertaining way. Her brother, Ben, was also a YNAB content creator and his excellent Sketchy Advice videos touched on the psychological side of spending.
Unfortunately, both siblings were laid off from YNAB earlier this year (along with some other great people). I had the opportunity to chat wth Hannah and Ben at the YNAB Fan Fest in San Diego last year and they are lovely people. (Quick note: Ben B, who is one of the Budget Nerds, was not laid off. He is also fabulous and I enjoyed meeting him at FanFest. He plays an active role in helping YNAB coaches.)
If you miss new Heard It From Hannah videos like I do, I have some good news. Hannah has started a YouTube channel of her own, called Suddenly Stay at Home. She and her husband, Mac, have two small boys and Hannah is now staying at home with her sons (something she really wanted to do). But she’s found time to make videos and she’s bringing her amazing personality to them.
The reason I thought to blog about it today is that she published a video this week in which she and Mac discuss how they dealt with the unexpected loss of her income. Overnight, their household income was cut in half. Of course they used YNAB to help them figure that out, but they don’t talk about YNAB in the video. Rather, they discuss priorities, silver linings and handling a panic-inducing situation. They get specific about what they cut out. And they do it with openness and great humor. So I wanted to share it with you.

The video is called We Lost Half Our Income. Here’s How We Rebuilt the Budget and I heartily recommend it.
Hannah is such a talented video creator that I’ll watch her talk about anything. If you’re at all familiar with her work for YNAB (and even if you’re not), I urge you to check out her new adventure!
