I don’t know if I’ve mentioned it here, but I’m the co-host of a weekly podcast called Getting to Good Enough, which is all about letting go of perfectionism so you can live with more ease, less stress, and a lot more laughter. My co-host is life coach and fellow YNAB Certified Coach, Shannon Wilkinson. Today, we published Episode 301.
As much as we love helping our clients with YNAB, we actually don’t talk much about it on the podcast. But a couple of months ago, we published an episode called Financial Perfectionism (and Why It Keeps You Stuck).
I thought readers of this blog might be interested in listening to (or watching) the episode. (Here’s the YouTube link if there’s a problem with the embedded video.)
In the episode, we talk about how there’s no “right” way to do money and that trying to do it right can just make it harder. And we talk about how we like to deal with our money: by paying attention, getting honest, and letting our spending reflect what actually matters to us.
YNAB is a fantastic tool for that. YNAB asks you pay attention to your money. And when you do, it reveals your financial truths, even those that are a little uncomfortable at first. And, best of all, it helps you make spending decisions that are in alignment with what’s important to you.
We all make mistakes when it comes to money or even when it comes to using YNAB. The goal isn’t to never make mistakes. It’s to stay engaged even when you do.
In our podcast we frequently talk about getting in touch with what’s important to you. We’ve learned that when you’re in touch with your why, everything becomes easier (including letting go of perfectionism). This applies to your money. And it also applies to your life.
If you find the idea intriguing, I encourage you to give the podcast a listen. And if you want to hear us talking more about money, check out Episode 87: Financial Peace, which we recorded way back in January 2020. That episode was a little more YNAB-centric.
I will always be grateful to Shannon (who has been my friend for 25 years!) for introducing me to YNAB. And I’m delighted to introduce you to her!
