I attended the YNAB Fan Fest in San Diego over the weekend. It was so much fun to be in a big room with people who are as nuts about YNAB as I am. The YNAB staffers were amazing and it’s so clear that the company culture is all about having fun while changing the world. (If you’re intrigued, there are two more Fan Fests this year, in Minneapolis on June 13 and in New York City on a date to be announced.)
Not only was Fan Fest fun, it was inspirational. We heard at least a half dozen talks from YNAB staffers at the Fan Fest. And as a YNAB Certified Coach, I was privy to a special presentation from YNAB CEO Todd Curtis at a dinner just for coaches. Todd said something at the dinner (which he repeated the next day) that crystallized the concept of spendfulness for me. Here it is.
Spendfulness is the absence of second guessing when spending.
Boom.
That’s what it’s all about isn’t it? Spending money without second guessing yourself. His talk made me realize that YNAB has brought me the absence of second guessing and I hadn’t even noticed it. I had noticed the peace of mind that YNAB has brought me. And now I can put even better words to it.
Do you second guess your spending? Do you find yourself regretting how you spend your money? The YNAB method (giving every dollar a job and asking the five questions to help you figure what jobs to give those dollars) will help you live spendfully. And once you’re living spendfully the second guessing will stop. It’s a beautiful thing!
